Word of God in Worship
Join us for a 3-part series on
Wednesdays, Sept. 10, Oct. 1, & Oct. 8th at 6:30-7:30pm
St. Mary Conference Room
Worship refers to the public celebration of the saving event by Christ, the Head of the Church, and His members, namely, all the Baptized.
We can use the analogy of the heart to better understand and appreciate the significance of the Word of God in our lives. The heart signifies the innermost core or center of an organism; the starting point and end point of the circulating blood, without which life is impossible. As a principal organ, it supplies all areas of the body, even in their most minute parts, with the blood that is indispensable for life. What the human heart is to the body, is what the Word of God is to worship. Without the Word of God, worship is empty, sterile, and meaningless.
You are invited to learn and grow in appreciation of the heart of worship by attending one or more sessions of this series, where I will lead conversations about the Word of God in Worship.
On the first evening (9/10), we will discuss the nature of the Word of God and its unique position in Worship, understanding the true meaning of the Inspiration of the Word of God, fruitful ways of celebrating and participating in the Word of God in Worship, essential differences between the Catholic and Protestant Bibles, and practical issues involved in the Word of God in Worship in our collaborative.
On the second evening (10/1), we will focus on the Word of God in Music. Music is an integral part of worship and our discussion will explore the nature of the Word of God in music, how the Word of God is expressed and transmitted, the biblical background of music in worship, the rationale and aim of music, and practical issues involved in the Word of God in Music at Worship in our PWC collaborative.
Our third evening (10/8), will focus on liturgical ministry in the Word of God. In addition to discussing the nature of the lector role within the liturgy, we will explore the difference between instituted and ad hoc lectors, enrichment and spirituality of the lector ministry, and practical issues for lectors within our collaborative.
Each evening will be held in the St. Mary conference room from 6:30-7:30pm. There will be ample time for questions and discussion. We are no longer asking for an RSVP– all are welcome as your schedule permits. I look forward to sharing the Word of God in Worship with you!
